1 killed, 4 injured at Jallikattu event conducted without permission

Salem (TN): One person was killed and four others injured on Wednesday when a bull ran amok at a jallikattu event reportedly conducted without authorities' permission, police said.

The bull taming event was held at Nakiampatti near Athur in Salem district with over 100 bull-tamers taking part.

A bull suddenly came out of the arena and ran into an area where spectators were seated. 

It attacked a 25-year-old man, resulting in serious injuries to his stomach, police said.

Four others were also injured in the incident.

Though he was rushed to the Athur Government hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, they said.

The other injured were admitted to hospital.

Following this, the jallikattu was stopped, police said, adding, further investigations were on.
