Srinagar: Tasaduq Hussain Mufti, brother of Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, and another PDP legislator and former minister Javaid Mustafa Mir were on Thursday administered the oath of office and secrecy as cabinet ministers in the PDP-BJP government during a swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in winter capital Jammu.

Mir represents Chadoora (Budgam) segment in the J&K Assembly whereas Mufti was nominated to the State Legislative Council by governor N.N. Vohra following the PDP-BJP government’s recommendation last week.

The duo was administered the oath of office by governor N.N. Vohra in presence of the chief minister and several other members of her council.

While taking the oath, Mr Mufti committed a paux pas as instead of God he swore in the name of ‘dog’. He was, however, quick to rectify himself by following up his error with ‘God’. The slip-up attracted quite a few comments from social media users, many of whom found it hilarious and for some others it was “not a good omen” for Mr Mufti or his chief minister sister. Yet many others shrugged it off by invoking ‘to err is human’ phrase.

46-year-old Mufti has lensed Bollywood blockbusters like Omkara and Kaminey. He had joined the PDP on January 7 this year to “bring peace and prosperity to the state” and ensure “common people and VIPs walk together.” He had told a party rally here, “I’m joining the PDP not because being the son of late Mufti Sahib but only after I’m convinced and inspired by the amount of work the PDP has done for Jammu and Kashmir and its people.”
