Patna: Five persons in Bihar’s Vaishali district have been arrested on the charge of throwing acid and injuring at least 13 persons, including three women of a single-family.

Speaking about the incident, the police officials said that members of two families picked up a fight due to differences between their children. “One family took out a bottle of acid and threw on the others during quarrel, leaving more than thirteen persons injured,” the police said.

However, victims later claimed that they were attacked for opposing eve-teasing by few youth. The police investigating the case said that “FIR is being lodged from both sides but the victims have not yet filed any written complaint regarding the eve-teasing issue. We have so far arrested five persons and we may also detain others if found involved in the case.” The issue has snowballed into a major controversy.

“The situation has been brought under control and officials have been asked to keep a tab of the situation in the area where the incident occurred. The arrested persons are being interrogated and further action will be taken after recording the statement of the accused”, Vinod Prasad, SHO of the local police station said.
