Mumbai: The Manpada police in Dombivali arrested a woman for severing the private parts of a person who was allegedly sexually harassing her for several days.

The police said she was assisted by two of her male friends, Tejas Mhatre and Mukesh Kaniya, who summoned the victim near the railway tracks in Kopar along the Diva-Vasai railway line following which they attacked him. The incident unfolded in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, police said.

“The male accused overpowered him as soon as he arrived there and assaulted him badly when the woman (identity withheld by the police) was also present. They then tied the victim to a tree and subsequently severed his private parts,” said an officer of Manpada police station.

The trio then fled, leaving the person bleeding. Locals, however, heard his cries and informed the police who arrived at the spot and rushed him to the nearest hospital. The victim was later shifted to AIMS Hospital in Dombivali MIDC where he is now undergoing treatment, the police said.

Based on the victim’s statement, the police identified the persons who had targeted him. The probe revealed that the man had been sexually harassing the woman and passing explicit comments against her in public. The woman had been trying to ward him off and had warned him to back off on several occasions.

However, after he continued to trouble her, she sought help from two of her friends and targeted the person. A case has been registered against the trio as per provisions of the Indian Penal Code and they have been remanded in police custody for two days for further investigation in the case.
