Lucknow: Bhim army chief Chandra Shekhar Azad, on Monday, presented a copy of the Indian Constitution to the Ayodhya district magistrate  and urged him to govern the district as per the law and not according to Manu Smitri, an ancient  Hindu text on Hindu law.

Talking to reporters after his return from Ayodhya , Chandra Shekahr said that he was concerned about the build up in the temple town and reports of Muslim migration.

“I responded to the fear of the minorities and decided to see things myself. The district magistrate assured me that the reports were baseless and Ayodhya was normal. The VHP volunteers and Shiv Sainiks had returned,” he said.

The Bhim Army leader said that he believed that Ayodhya was an ancient Buddhist place of religious importance as it was called Saket.

“I had written to the chief minister to develop it as a Buddha Vihar,” he said.

However, he maintained that he wanted the Supreme Court to decide in the matter as was proper in a democracy.

Clarifying his position regarding the Ram temple movement, Azad said that if there was any threat to the constitutional rights of the people of Ayodhya, the Bhim army would launch a campaign to protect them.

Replying to a question about BSP national president Mayawati’s continuous attack on him, he said that it appears that some people have poisoned her ears against me.

“I am a humble follower of Kanshi Ram and have always voted for the BSP. I believe Behenji (Mayawati) is the tallest Dalit leader today and should be projected as the Prime Minister for 2019”, He said.

The Bhim Army leader clarified that his outfit would not join electoral politics and work to make the Dalits aware of their rights.
