Naval officer dies fighting fire onboard INS Vikramaditya

Karwar: A naval officer lost his life while endeavouring to bring down fire onboard the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. The incident happened when the ship was entering the harbour in Karwar, Karnataka.

The officer lost consciousness during the firefighting efforts. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

"Lieutenant Commander DS Chauhan bravely led the firefighting efforts in the affected compartment," the Navy said.

The Navy said that the fire was brought under control by the crew without inflicting any severe damage to the carrier.

An official enquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident.

INS Vikramaditya is India's only aircraft carrier and the biggest ship in the Indian Navy.
