Lucknow: One of the biggest congregations of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) volunteers will take place in Meerut on February 25.

According to sources, more than three lakh RSS volunteers will attend the event and the chief guest will be RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

The event is called the “Rashtrodaya Samagam” and the participants have already been registered from the 10,000 odd villages in the region.

Prant pracharak Dhani Ram said that 3. 1 lakh registrations have been completed and seeing the enthusiasm of the people, the registration website will be reopened on February 1 and 2. All participants will be required to attend the event in their “Ganvesh” (uniform) — khaki trousers and white shirts.

The “samagam” is significant since it is being held in a region that has a dominant population of Muslims and dalits. The districts being covered by the event include Meerut, Sambhal, Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Amroha, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Bijnore, Rampur, Ghaziabad and Noida.

The RSS, sources said, was keen to establish a communication with Muslims and assure them that the BJP was ready to welcome them with open arms. The Sangh will also use the bill on triple talaq to convince Muslims that it wanted to empower and educate them.

Similarly, the Sangh leaders will also start a dialogue with Dalits on issues related to them.

The exercise is designed with an eye on the 2019 general elections.

The “samagam” will be held on a 1200 acre land on Gadh road and a whole township will be set up there.

The BJP had swept across western UP in the 2014 Lok Sabha and then the 2017 assembly elections.
