New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will still let you exchange the demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes at its counters, the central bank said on its website on Friday.

People will be able to exchange the old currency notes up to Rs 2,000 as is the current limit.

The RBI said, "The Reserve Bank of India advises members of public that exchange of banknotes in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denominations, whose legal tender status has been withdrawn, will continue to be available at the counters of the Reserve Bank upto the current limits per person as hitherto. (However such exchange facility is no longer available at other banks' counters)."

From November 24 midnight, the government has banned exchange of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes at other banks. These notes can now only be deposited in the banks till December 31.

However, withdrawal of Rs 2,000 per day from ATMs, banks and Point of Sale (POS) outlets is still allowed.
