Bhopal: Dacoits have unleashed terror in the holy land of Chitrakoot in Madhya Pradesh by abducting three people including a retired forest officer Ramsray Pandey for ransom, police said on Wednesday.

Ramsray was returning to Rewa after visiting a hospital in Satna when their car was stopped and he along with his two companions in the vehicle were dragged out and taken to the nearby jungle by the armed dacoits, a senior Satna district police officer told this newspaper on Wednesday.

Sources said a ransom of Rs 50 lakh was demanded from his family. The bandits struck in the region after a gap of almost two years.

According to the police, armed bandits led by Lablesh Kol who has recently broke away from Babli Kol gang, stopped vehicles at Bagdara Ghat in Satna-Chitrakoot highway on Sunday and looted the passengers.

“Three police teams have been dispatched to the jungle to rescue them”, he said, adding, “Satna, Rewa range inspector general police was supervising the rescue operation”.

However, police chose to keep mum on the matter in the interest of security of the three abducted people.

Lablesh, who carried Rs one lakh reward on his head by MP police, was sharp shooter of Babli Kol, infamous for his ruthlessness and cruelty towards his victims.

The region is considered bad land of MP like the Chambal valley, once ruled by dreaded dacoits like Madho Singh and Phoolan Devi.
