New Delhi: Pakistan on Saturday described the meeting between its newly-appointed high commissioner Sohail Mahmood and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi earlier this week as merely a “courtesy call” by a “newly-posted envoy” and made it clear that no specific case — a veiled reference to the Kulbhushan Jadhav case — was discussed during the eeting.

However, Islamabad said the two “took stock of the current state of Pakistan-India relations” at the meeting on Tuesday and had discussed “broad contours of bilateral relations”.

In a statement from Islamabad, the Pakistan foreign office said, “ Sohail Mahmood has recently assumed office as Pakistan’s new high commissioner to India. It is customary for the newly-posted envoys to make courtesy calls on the local dignitaries.” Islamabad further said, “The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere. Both took stock of the current state of Pakistan-India relations.”
