Lucknow: Allahabad, once renowned for a village that had the maximum number of twins, is back in the news again.

This time it is for a village where a majority of the residents share the same date of birth — January 1.

Most of the residents of the Kanjasa village in Jasra block have their birthday on January 1.

The matter came to light recently during a camp to make Aadhaar cards of school children in the village.

The school teachers, who were entrusted the responsibility of supervising the camp, found that all the children mentioned January 1 as their birth date.

On further inquiry, they found that the birthday of most of the family members in the village, with a population of at least 15,000 and with 4500 voters, was also January 1.

The village head, Ram Dulari, said that the strange fact had not come to anyone’s notice and now she would speak to the higher authorities about it.

“It seems that someone in the Aadhar camps held earlier told the villagers to mention January 1 as their date of birth and everyone followed the advice,” she said.

“In villages, most of the elders are not aware of their date and year of birth, and hence, this blunder,” she added.

Daya Shankar Pandey, ADM finance and revenue, Allahabad, said that the incident was brought to his notice.

“We are trying o find out the name of the agency that was asked to make Aadhaar cards in this village and we will take action against them,” Mr Pandey said.

“We are also initiating efforts to set right the error and prepare new Aadhaar cards for the villagers,” he added.
