Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala has demanded that a case should be registered against IG S. Sreejith and other officers who allowed a woman “devotee” to wear the police riot gear to enter Sabarimala as it was a clear violation of Section 43 (4) of the Kerala Police Act.

As per the Act, it was a non-bailable offence with six months imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 2,000.

“I don’t know how one of the ladies was given a police gear who tried to visit a shrine,” he said.

Mr Chennithala termed chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s visit to the UAE to mobilise funds for the Rebuild Kerala initiative during such an explosive situation ‘’untimely.” “He should return to the state,” he said.
