EC issues notice to Rahul Gandhi over Amethi posters
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on Friday sent a notice to Congress president Rahul Gandhi for an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct over banners put up in his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi earlier this week. The banners, which had a picture of Rahul Gandhi, said: “Ab hoga Nyay”. The party chief has been asked to reply to the poll panel’s notice within 24 hours.
The election panel said the banners were put up without the permission of the local election officers and the owner of the building. Flying squads of the Election Commission came across seven 10x25 foot banners across Amethi, the EC said in its notice. It further said that when its officers had asked for the relevant papers, the Congress workers could not produce any documents.
The Election Commission said action would be taken if the Congress president was unable to give a satisfactory reply.
“Nyay” is a scheme that has been promised by the Congress Party to provide basic minimum income.
