Lucknow: For those who think that weddings function are designed for those who believe in “eat, drink and be merry”, this one is a definite damper.

Kailash Prasad Rathore, a farmer in Sitapur district, has sent out invitations for his son’s “tilak” ceremony which is to be held on June 19. The invitation clearly mentions “sharaab peekar aana sakth mana hai (coming to marriage after consuming alcohol is strictly prohibited)”. It also indicates that no alcohol would be served to guests. “Most people usually go overboard with their drinks and then create unpleasant scenes at such functions. I have clearly mentioned this on the card and those who cannot do without drinks, need not come,” the father said.

Ashwini, the groom, says: “Some of my friends may be feeling bad, but one day they will realise that he was right. A wedding is a time to celebrate and not to face unpleasant incidents.”
