Lucknow: Within hours of Mr Rahul Gandhi taking over as Congress president, posters appeared in Allahabad district naming him as ‘Desh ka Beta’.

In the same poster, a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi is named as ‘Rashtra Pita’( Father of the nation)  and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been named as ‘Desh ka baap’—an obvious reference to BJP spokesman Sambit Patra who termed Mr Modi as ‘desh ka baap’ in a recent TV debate.

Nathuram Godse, Gandhi’s assassin, has been termed as ‘RSS ka baap’. The poster has been put up by Irshad Ullah, secretary of the city Congress committee in Allahabad. Irshad Ullah has been known to put up controversial posters in the holy city. But the regard for Mr Rahul was not restricted to just party workers.  Ram Baran — tea vendor in gauriganj area has also pledged to distribute his special lemon tea free of cost to all customers after 3 pm on Monday.
