Man stops officials from taking photos of women, lynched

Jaipur: A man trying to stop government officials from taking pictures of women defecating in the open, succumbed to his injuries after he was severely beaten in Pratapgarh district of Rajasthan. A case has been registered against five municipality officials on a complaint filed by the brother of the deceased. No one has been arrested so far.

The incident happened near Bagwasa Kachi Basti area at around 6:30 am where few women had gone to attend nature’s call. The municipality employees of Pratapgarh, who were on a tour to shame people, tried to scare the women and took photographs of them defecating in the open. It was then that 55-year-old Zafar Khan intervened and tried to stop municipality employees from taking pictures. In retaliation, the municipality employees kicked, punched and beat Khan with a stick, which led to his death, according to the FIR lodged by Khan’s elder brother Noor Mohammed. He has lodged a complaint against Kamal Harijan, Ritesh Harijan, Manish Harijan, Nagar Parishad commissioner Ashok Jain and others following which the police has registered a case of murder, the Pratapgarh Kotwali police said. Post the death of Khan, his family along with others demanded compensation and arrest of municipal council commissioner.

The killing of Khan was called “communal” by the Muslim organisation.

Police personnel has been deployed to maintain law and order. The police has kept the body at the district hospital for post-mortem.

Reacting to the incident, PCC chief Sachin Pilot in a tweet asked if chief minister Vasundhara Raje would put an end to this lawlessness.
