Jaipur: Fearing backlash from young voters, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje has revoked the decision to impose uniforms in government colleges. The CM informed about this decision in a series of tweets saying that the decision has been taken considering unhappiness among students.

“The Directorate for College Education had issued an order to introduce uniforms in government colleges based on the suggestion of student representatives. It has been brought to my attention that many students are not happy with this decision,” the CM said.

This was followed by another tweet in which she informed about rollback of the decision. “I have therefore asked that uniforms be made voluntary rather than compulsory. We are here to provide our girls with whatever they require in order to excel in their education,” she informed. The CM’s decision is clear snub to education minister Kiran Maheshwari, who had claimed that the decision was taken on demand by students. “Many college students have requested their teachers and principals for a dress code,” she had claimed during the Shikshak-Chattra Samvad program, initiated by the department.
