New Delhi: The Supreme Court can’t kill the jobs of thousands of poor people working in the firecracker industry, driving them to starvation. If the court can’t generate jobs, its orders should not extinguish their livelihood, it observed Tuesday, hinting at the possibility of revisiting the order banning the manufacture, sale and use of loud and toxic firecrackers.

The Supreme Court had on October 23, 2018, while allowing only green, improved crackers, curbed the use of firecrackers before, after and during the festival of Diwali.

Several pleas were filed for modification of the order.

Additional solictor-general Nadkarni told the court that a meeting of stakeholders would be held in New Delhi on Wednesday.
