New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear on March 15 a writ petition filed by the DMK for a direction to the Election Commission to notify byelections for the Aravakurichi, Ottapidaram and Tiruparankundram Assembly constituencies on April 18 along with 18 other Assembly constituencies, which go to polls on that day.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi agreed to list the petition for hearing on Friday after senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for DMK Member of Parliament R.S. Bharathi seeking court intervention for holding the by-polls to the three constituencies which were left out citing pendency of cases in the Madras high court.

The petition filed through counsel Ms Indira submitted that the EC had announced by-polls to 18 constituencies on April 18 along with the LS polls. However, the Commission had not announced polls for the constituencies.
