Lucknow: UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath may be pushing his Hindutva line at every available opportunity, but the chief minister also believes that children studying in government schools in UP should be at par with children studying in convent schools.

The chief minister wants children to dress well, be able to speak well and also learn English.

“To improve the standards of education, we will be introducing the NCERT syllabus in primary government schools from April 1. We have already identified about 150 schools that will be developed like the best convent schools”, deputy chief minister Dr Dinesh Sharma told this correspondent on Friday.

Mr Sharma also holds the education portfolio in the Yogi government.

He said that the government wanted to focus on vocation –related education so that the future of the children could be secured. “We will also focus on aptitude tests from time to time to understand what the child actually wants”, he explained.

The education department has also started the exercise of talking to children to understand how they want their school to be upgraded.

“We have to understand why education in government primary schools lags behind that of convent schools. Our focus is not on expensive surroundings but on good educational tools needed to enhance educational skills,” he added.
