Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed busting a Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) module by arresting its eight members from north-western towns of Sopore.

It tweeted, “Module of #Laskar-e-Toiba outfit involving 8 individuals arrested in #Sopore. Investigation under progress.”

The police sources said that the accused were arrested for allegedly circulating posters to locals to threaten and intimidate them at the behest of militants. These posters had appeared on walls and electricity poles across Sopore, 48-km northwest of here, asking people to observe a “civil curfew” and launch a civil “disobedience” movement against the government.

Those arrested have been identified as Aijaz Mir, Omar Mir, Tauseef Najar, Imitiyaz Najar, Omar Akbar, Faizan Latief, Danish Habib and Showkat Ahmed Mir. The police sources said that the accused had prepared these threatening posters and circulated them in the locality at the behest of LeT militant Sajad Mir alias Haidar and his other associates Muddasir Pandith and Asif Maqbool Bhat.

The police is learnt to have seized computers and other items that were used for drafting and publishing the posters.
