TN local polls: SC stays order on CCTV footage of counting centre
The HC had passed the order on a plea by a section of advocates seeking the videography of the counting of the votes of the rural local bodies polls.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Madras high court order directing the State Election Commission to submit the CCTV footage of the counting centers where the counting of votes of local rural bodies elections took place.
Staying the order passed by the Madurai bench of Madras high court, a bench comprising Chief Justice S.A. Bobde, Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice Surya Kant issued notice on the petition by the Tamil Nadu government challenging the high court order while explaining the difficulties it was encountering in complying with the order.
Besides staying the high court order on CCTV footage, the top court today also issued notice on a plea by advocate G.S.Mani seeking direction to the State Election Commission to hold elections to urban local bodies. The Madurai bench of the Madras high court had directed the state election commission to submit the CCTV footage of the counting centres where the counting of votes of the rural local bodies took place.
