Dehradun: Bajrang Dal activists and other right-wing organisations on Sunday reportedly vandalised a vegetable shop in Uttarakhand’s Satpuli town after the owner's minor son allegedly posted an 'offensive' picture of the Kedarnath shrine on Facebook.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, communal tension has gripped the town in the Garhwal district following the incident.

Additional forces have been deployed in Satpuli town to prevent the situation from worsening, police said.

"We are trying to nab the one who originally posted the inflammatory picture of the Kedarnath shrine and normalise the situation. The district magistrate is also rushing to the spot," superintendent of police (SP) Jagatram Joshi told HT.

The right-wing activists vandalised the shop and burnt the vegetable boxes as they shouted pro-Hindu slogans.

"They were also seen searching for the vegetable vendor who fled the area," an eyewitness told the newspaper.

A similar incident happened recently in West Bengal after a Hindu youth allegedly uploaded an inflammatory post on his Facebook account, which hurt the sentiment of the Muslim community. Violence erupted in Basirhat and Baduria regions of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal after the Facebook post went viral.
