Sonia upset with infighting in MP unit, warns strong action

Chief minister Kamal Nath who met Ms Gandhi in Delhi on Saturday said he had detailed her on the current state of affairs in the party.

Bhopal: Congress high command has taken strong exception to running feud in the party’s Madhya Pradesh unit and given go ahead signal to initiate action against the erring leaders.

This was indicated by AICC general secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Deepak Babaria.

Mr Babaria who has submitted his report on the ongoing internecine war in Congress in MP over the post of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, on Saturday said he has apprised the situation to her. “She (Ms Gandhi) was very upset over the developments in the party in MP. She said that indiscipline in the party would not be tolerated and strong action would be taken against leaders, big or small, who flouted discipline”, Mr Babaria told reporters.

He indicated that the party might take stern action against the leaders found to be indulging in infighting in violation of party discipline.

Chief minister Kamal Nath who met Ms Gandhi in Delhi on Saturday said he had detailed her on the current state of affairs in the party.

“The matter (of squabbling) has been referred to AICC’s disciplinary committee headed by A K Antony. The aggrieved leaders may meet Mr Antony to clarify their position”, Mr Nath told reporters.

Incidentally, state forest minister Umang Singhar who had accused former chief minister Digvijay Singh of acting as ‘Super CM’ by writing letters to the ministers in the Kamal Nath government seeking to inform him on the progress made in execution of his recommendations made to them regarding transfer of officers and other workers in their respective departments, was currently camping in Delhi to meet AICC leaders to explain his stand, sources told this newspaper on Saturday.
