Patna: Stepping up his attack on RJD chief Lalu Yadav, Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday claimed that his family had close links with people associated with the mining mafia in  Bihar.

Mr Modi said that the director of the three companies dealing with illegal sand mining was closely associated with Mr Yadav’s family and had been investing in their properties.

Talking to reporters in Patna, he said that three companies — Broadson, Bansidhar, and Mor Mukut were given tender of mining worth `237 crore. He said that Subhash Prasad Yadav, the director of all three companies, was the “right-hand man of Lalu Yadav and was given sand mining contracts in six districts of Bihar”.

Documents presented by the deputy chief minister also showed that Subhash Prasad Yadav had bought three flats from Lalu Yadav’s wife and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi on June 13, 2017, at the cost of `1 crore and 72 lakh.

“Buying three flats in a day raises doubts. I will be sending all the documents to the Income Tax department, seeking an investigation into the payments made to Lalu Yadav and his family.”

The attack on Mr Yadav’s family comes days after Mr Modi claimed he would prove that the sand mining mafias were involved in funding the RJD.

Mr Modi earlier told this newspaper that the NDA government was reviewing files to find irregularities when the RJD was part of the government.

Nitish Kumar had resigned as Chief Minister of the Grand Secular Alliance government in Bihar last month after Lalu Yadav’s younger son Tejashwi Yadav repeatedly refused to give explanations about corruption charges he has been facing.

Within 24 hours of his resignation, Mr. Kumar was sworn in as Chief Minister of the NDA government along with BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi who took oath as Deputy Chief Minister.

It was Sushil Kumar Modi who had earlier raised a string of corruption charges against Lalu Yadav’s family. He had accused the family of laundering money through various shell companies to purchase properties in Patna and Delhi’s high profile locations at a throwaway price.

“Lalu Yadav must come out with the truth about their links with sand mining mafia and selling three flats in a single day to Subhash Prasad Yadav “, Mr. Modi said.
