New Delhi: Pakistan violated ceasefire almost daily in 2015 and 2016 along the Line of Control. In an RTI response, the home ministry has informed that as many as 23 security personnel died in these violations. Similarly, between 2016-16, as many as 1,142 terror incidents were reported in Jammu and Kashmir in which 90 civilians and 236 security personnel were killed. During the same time, security forces killed 507 militants in different encounters.

In its reply, the ministry also stated that while in 2016 Pakistan violated ceasefire on 449 occasions, in 2015 the figure was 405. While there were 220 incidents of terror in J&K in 2012, in 2016, almost 322 such cases were reported in which 82 security personnel and 15 civilians were killed.

According to the ministry in 2012, as many as 15 security personnel and a same number of civilians were killed in 220 terror incidents, while 72 terrorists were also killed in encounters.

In 2013, the figure for security personnel was 53 and 15 for civilians in 170 while 67 terrorists were killed in encounters by security forces.

As many as 47 security personnel, 28 civilians and 110 terrorists were killed in encounters in 2014.

Similarly in 2015, as many as 39 security personnel, 17 civilians were killed in 208 terror incidents, while 108 terrorists were eliminated.

The Valley has witnessed unprecedented violence over the past few months on account of stone pelting and some recent cases of bank robbery by terror outfits. This has been backed by action along the LoC where Pakistani security forces have been targeting Indian posts and in an incident last week Pak’s Border Action Team (BAT) had beheaded two Indian soldiers.

The Centre is closely monitoring the security situation in the Valley as intelligence reports suggest that terror outfits will try and step up their activities in the next few months by attacking security forces and using local residents to carryout protests.
