Cong CEA: Rahul only canditate in fray

A total of 89 nomination papers were received, all proposing Mr. Rahul Gandhi's name.

New Delhi: The decks are clear for the elevation of Congress V-P Rahul Gandhi to the post of party president.

The Central Election Authority (CEA) of the Congress on Tuesday declared that after scrutiny of nominations Mr. Gandhi was the only candidate in the fray.

A total of 89 nomination papers were received, all proposing Mr. Rahul Gandhi's name. All the nominations were found to be valid after scrutiny. Speaking to reporters the chairman of the CEA, Mullapally Ramachandran, said, "There is now only one validly nominated candidate, that is Mr. Rahul Gandhi." Since December 11 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations Mr. Gandhi is expected to be given a certificate of being elected unopposed on that day. Meanwhile taking the battle to the BJP, Mr Gandhi posed a seventh question to the Mr Modi over Gujarat.

The Congress V-P has been tweeting a question a day to the PM on the 22 year rule of BJP in Gujarat and also asked him on the increased prices of several commodities. He asked Mr Modi to give reasons regarding the increase in prices since the BJP has come to power. He also added a list of commodities that have seen a sharp rise in prices.

Continuing his campaign in Gujarat, Mr. Gandhi was addressing public meetings in Kutch and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat. Though three of his rallies had to be cancelled due to the prevailing cyclonic conditions in the state but he addressed a rally in Anjar in Kutch.
