Chennai: President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday night led a galaxy of political leaders across the country in praying for the speedy recovery of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who suffered a cardiac arrest.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Acting Tamil Nadu Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao to inquire about her health and is understood to have directed the Director Generals of CRPF and CISF to rush to Chennai to monitor the situation.
“Distressed to hear about CM Jayalalithaa suffering a cardiac arrest, my prayers for her speedy recovery,” the President tweeted on his official Twitter account, within an hour after hearing the news.
Leaders across the political spectrum took to Twitter to wish quick recovery for the Chief Minister. “Praying for Jayalalithaa ji's quick recovery. I hope she gets better very soon,” Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi tweeted. Gandhi had visited the Apollo Hospitals on October 7 to inquire about Jayalalithaa’s health.
Rising above political differences, DMK President M Karunanidhi and Treasurer M K Stalin on Sunday night wished Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa speedy recovery.
Both Karunanidhi and his son Stalin took to micro-blogging site Twitter to express their hope. “I wish Chief Minister recovers well from the surgery,” Mr Stalin wrote on Twitter.
“I hope Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa recovers soon,” Karunanidhi said.
“Very concerned about the health of Jayalalitha Ji. Like my friends in Tamil Nadu, I am praying for her speedy recovery. May God bless her,” West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted.
Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, a close friend of the Chief Minister, said he was feeling bad to know about her health condition. “Feeling bad to know about the critical condition of TN CM Selvi Jayalalithaa. Praying for her speedy recovery and quick response to the treatment,” he tweeted.
“Wishing Jayalalithaa Hon CM of TN a speedy recovery, Let her be healthy soon,” Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and enquired about the health of Jayalalithaa.
Rao briefed Singh about the health condition of the Chief Minister and conveyed that doctors attending to her were taking all necessary steps, sources said, adding that the Governor told the Home Minister that he was rushing to Chennai to personally monitor the situation.
Home Ministry officials are in constant touch with the officials of Tamil Nadu government and assessing the situation.
"I wish a speedy recovery for Jayalalithaa who suffered a massive heart attack. May god give her the strength to fight," Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu said.
Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu tweeted, "Feeling bad to know abt da critical condition of TN CM Selvi Jayalalithaa. Praying for her speedy recovery and quick response 2 the treatment (sic)."
Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman also tweeted: "Very upsetting news about Hon.CM of Tamil Nadu, Selvi.Jayalalitha suffering a cardiac arrest. Prayers for her speedy recovery."
"My father joins me in wishing Mtr Jayalalithaa Sahiba a complete & speedy recovery," former J&K CM Omar Abdullah said.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "Very concerned about the health of Jayalalithaa Ji. Like my friends in Tamil Nadu, I am praying for her speedy recovery. May God bless her."
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said "Got to know about Tamil Nadu CM #Jayalalithaa ji's health. Maharashtra prays for her speedy recovery!"
Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad said, "Totally worried about the health of #Jayalalithaa Ji. Wishing and Praying for speedy recovery. Let's all pray for her."
BJP state President Tamilisai Sounderrajan also wished speedy recovery of Jayalalithaa.
She expressed concern over the "setback" in the Chief Minister's health and prayed for her speedy recovery.
