Bhopal: BJP has given a touch of green to its national membership drive, scheduled to commence on July 6, by deciding to plant at least 50 lakh saplings across the country on the occasion.

Former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is the chairman of national membership drive of the party, on Thursday exhorted all the state party leaderships to ensure that at least five saplings were planted in each polling booth area before launching membership drive there.

There are around 10 lakh polling booths in the country. Hence, around 50 lakh saplings would be planted across the country on the occasion, Mr Chouhan said on Thursday.

“The membership drive has been linked to planting of saplings to generate awareness among the people in the country on importance of preservation and protection of environment,” he added.
