J&K: 10 killed, 30 injured in three separate mishaps

Srinagar: At least ten people, including two women, were killed and more than thirty others injured in three separate road accidents in Udhampur, Kishtwar and Ramban districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

Five persons were killed on the spot when a private bus with about forty passengers on board skidded off a hilly road and fell into a deep gorge at Chandeh village near Surinsar area of Udhampur shortly after midnight.

Many of those travelling in the bus were injured and were rushed to Jammu’s Government Medical College Hospital. One of them was declared dead by doctors on arrival. The condition of, at least, five other injured is stated to be critical.

In a similar incident, three persons including a woman were killed and three others were injured at Dadpeth-Mugalmaidan in hilly district of Kishtwar district. The cab in which they were travelling was on its way to Kishtwar town, the police said.

The police also said that a driver Gurdev Singh of Jammu was killed in a head-on collision between two trucks near Ramban along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the vital highway was closed again for traffic on Saturday after fresh landslide near Pantiyal in Ramban district. Earlier, traffic was allowed to ply from Jammu to Srinagar on the 294-km highway despite fresh snowfall and rains. An official said that hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on the highway following the landslides.
