Raipur: A bridge that was destroyed by Naxals in 2006 was recently repaired under the supervision of Chhattisgarh Police women commandos.

Deputy Inspector General of Police P Sundarraj said, "This is the first time a road and bridge have been constructed under the surveillance of women commandos."

He said the construction of the bridge will benefit villagers primarily and students going to the schools at some distance from their villages. Women, too can visit hospitals.

The women commandos were guarding a nearly six-kilometre-long stretch of road to ensure resumption of regular services in the district.

They were at the job for the past 15 days.

In 2006, Maoists damaged the bridge, severing the link between Tindori, Daler, Viriabhoomi and Aadwada villages, because of which a number of basic rural services were affected.
