Odisha: Maoists, police exchange fire in Kandhamal

Phulbani: An exchange of fire took place on Thursday morning between Maoists and Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel near Lankagarh village under Belaghar police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

As per primary information, there were 20-25 Maoists present at a camp near Lankagarh where the security forces conducted raid.

The gun-battle continued for around one and a half hour, sources said.

Security personnel seized huge cache of explosives, bullets and scrapped currency notes from the spot.

Speaking to reporters in Phulbani, the district headquarters of Kandhamal, southern range inspector general (IG) Amitabh Thakur said additional forces were sent to Belghar to intensify the coming operation.
