Continuing its attack on Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government, the BJP on Monday described sacking of two state ministers over allegations of corruption as a “drama” and an “eyewash.” The saffron party claimed that the two ministers were made “scapegoats” after the Alalhabad high court ordered a CBI probe into the alleged mining scandal as his family is behind this “loot”.
The BJP, which had declared that its fight in election-bound state will be against SP’s misgovernance, said the chief minister acted only after the HC’s observation on the rampant illegal mining going on in the state. The party asked why the chief minister did not act when the lokayukta had asked to probe against one of the sacked ministers almost two year ago. The BJP, whose main poll planks for UP elections will be development and good governance, accused the ruling SP of promoting and protecting corruption, criminals and misgovernance in the state.
BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said the decision to sack the ministers was aimed at publicity in the media after the SP government “looted” the state for five years and proved to be a “failure on all fronts”.
The party alleged that the two sacked ministers, Gayatri Prajapati and Rajkishore Singh, collected money and were close to the chief minister, who protected Mr Prajapati for close to two years after the lokayukta had recommended his dismissal and a criminal probe against him.
“Akhilesh Yadav protected him all this while. Now the high court has been firm and ordered a CBI probe into the mining scandal. He has been trapped now. Prajapati has been made a scapegoat... Your (Yadav) whole family is behind this. To save them, you have sacked him. It is just an eyewash,” he said.
Quoting the HC order, he said it had rejected the government’s contention that a CBI probe was not required and observed that “those in the government also seemed to be involved in this”.
He demanded that if the chief minister has “any sense of morality, he should resign.”
The BJP claimed that have made up their mind to “vote out the SP government” and will vote for it in the name of “good governance and development”.
“People are disenchanted with the troika of SP, BSP and Congress and will vote for the saffron party,” the BJP leader claimed.
