Railway Board chairman A.K. Mittal
Two days before his retirement, Railway Board chairman A.K. Mittal has been reappointed to the same position for two more years. The decision to reappoint Mr Mittal was taken by the PMO in a bid to give continuity to the ongoing works in Railways. With this extension, Mr Mittal, who took over as CRB on January 1, 2015, will have a tenure of over three-and-a-half years, making him the longest serving head of the railway board. Incidentally, the Railways had sent three names — member (staff) Pradeep Kumar, member (traffic) Mohammed Jamshed and member (engineering) A.K. Mittal — to the ACC. But the PMO ignored opted to give another tenure to Mr Mittal.
