An unidentified person on Saturday threw ink at Union health minister J.P. Nadda when his convoy was wading through agitating medicos at All-India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Bhopal.
The incident occurred when Mr Nadda was emerging from the premier medical college in his vehicle after inaugurating some facilities in the institute.
He was facing protests from the students of AIIMS, Bhopal, over “poor facilities” in the institute.
Later, the driver of the vehicle carrying Mr Nadda tried to speed up the car to escape the demonstrating students, injuring two students in the process.
“Mr Nadda’s vehicle was passing through the rows of slogan-shouting students when someone from among them threw ink at him. The ink-thrower is yet to be identified. The police was investigating into the matter,” a functionary of AIIMS told this newspaper on the condition of anonymity.
According to him, agitating students denied role of any of them in the incident.
The incident caused a commotion, provoking the driver of the vehicle carrying Mr Nadda to start the car to leave the place.
In the process, two girl students of the institute were injured when their toes came under wheels of the vehicle.
The two injured MBBS students, identified as Anjali Krishna and Iziya, were rushed to the AIIMS hospital.
“Two girl students of the college suffered injuries in their toes. They were undergoing treatment”, the institute functionary confirmed.
The students were protesting over lack of infrastructure such as adequate faculty, well-equipped lab, and functioning operation theatres.
They were also demanding appointment of a regular director of AIIMS, Bhopal. Currently, AIIMS, Raipur, Nitin Nagarkar is in-charge director of AIIMS, Bhopal.
