The Agra administration has been put on high alert after pictures of Afghanistan students hosting an alleged beef party went viral on the social media late on Friday night.

Some Hindu outfits also staged a demonstration in the city and demanded closure of the institute.

The pictures that went viral around 11.30 pm on Friday night show three male students of the Central Institute of Hindi chopping meat, allegedly in the hostel.

The photographs on the social media, show large chunks of meat —apparently beef — being chopped and barbecued by the three students. City magistrate S. Rekha Chauhan, who led a search team to the hostel after midnight, said that nothing suspicious was found in the hostel and though the students seen in the pictures are from the institution, they were not present when the search team went there. Additional forces have been deployed on the campus and communally-sensitive areas on the apprehension that Hindu outfits may hold protests over the matter.

Mr Anurag Vats, CO Hariparvat, said that if anything suspicious is found, the forensic team will be called in. He said that the students would also be questioned in the matter but refused to disclose their identity.

A high-powered committee has been set up by the institute to probe the incident and the institute has been closed for 10 days.
