The additional director-general of police R.K. Sahay, who was undergoing treatment at Bombay Hospital after reportedly meeting with an accident on September 14 that left him with 60 per cent burns, died on Thursday morning. Earlier, the incident was believed to be a suicide, but after Sahay gave a preliminary statement to the police describing what caused the tragedy, it was revealed that it was an accident. Doctors at the Bombay Hospital said that the 57-year-old Sahay took his last breath at around 8.20 am following a cardiac arrest. Doctors believe that if not for inhalation burns, the ADG (housing) could have survived the incident. He had suffered around 55 per cent burns on his face, hands, neck and chest when he allegedly slipped and fell down when a bottle filled with petrol spilled resulting in the fire. Sahay suffered from extensive inhalation burns.
