In a bizarre incident, five members of a family, including three children, were attacked with acid by their neighbour over a remark made by the family on a TV show.
The incident took place on Friday night in Tadtada area in Jaunpur district. A family was watching a sitcom on TV when one of them passed a comment on an obese woman featuring on the show.
A woman, who was passing by, thought that the comment was directed at her. She went home and reported the matter to her family members who came and threw acid on the family.
One of the victims, Gudiya Soni, told police that the men — who are related to the family — also thrashed her husband and brothers-in-law.
The victims are admitted at the district hospital, and the condition of the three children is reportedly serious.
Superintendent of police Atul Saxena said a case is registered but the accused are absconding.
