An accused in an acid attack case is roaming free in Moradabad district because he belongs to the ruling Samajwadi Party. According to reports reaching here, Mani Bishnoi, son of SP leader Anil Bishnoi, had allegedly attacked a BA first year student with acid in her house because she had reportedly spurned his advances. The incident took place on January 1.
Although the local police registered an FIR against the accused after pressure from the local media, the accused is roaming free and the police are making no effort to arrest him. According to the FIR, the girl and her grandmother were present in the house at the time of the incident.
“I was cleaning utensils in my house on January 1 when Mani barged into our house and tried to rape me. My grandmother heard me screaming and came to see what was happening. Later, Mani pushed me into the bathroom, picked up a bottle containing acid and threw it on my face,” the girl has said in her complaint. “My family members took me to a nearby private hospital but later, about 30 accomplices of Bishnoi kidnapped my younger brother and said that they would kill him if I went to a government hospital. Subsequently, they took me to a quack. They also forced me to confess before the police that it was only a case of accident,” the girl told reporters on Sunday.
The girl’s parents had been working as labourers in Anil Kumar Bishnoi’s fields for the past several years.
The police have registered an FIR against Mani Bishnoi on the complaint of the girl’s grandmother under Sections 452 and 326 A of the IPC.
The victim has alleged that the police are forcing them for a compromise with the accused by accepting some cash. The girl and her family have shifted out of their home and are now living with relatives elsewhere.
