Veteran leader V.S. Achuthanandan will solicit votes for his bête noire Pinarayi Vijayan on April 21 when he visits Kannur district as part of his state wide election campaign.
The veteran leader will launch his electioneering in Kannur district with the public meeting at Dharmadom from where the CPI(M) politburo member is contesting. He would also be addressing meetings in Kannur and Koothuparamba. However, Mr Vijayan will not be present in the constituency during Mr Achuthanandan’s campaign as he would be soliciting votes for actor Mukesh and other candidates in Kollam district on April 21.
The Opposition leader, who is currently campaigning in his constituency Malampuzha, will be leaving for Kasargod on Tuesday to begin a 14-day campaign trail covering all districts barring Palakkad. During this period the veteran would be taking a break on April 25. He will be returning to Thiruvananthapuram on May 3.
Contrary to the earlier reports that Mr Achuthanandan will use a caravan (modified vehicle) for election campaign, the 94-year-old leader has decided to travel by a Skoda throughout the state and the vehicle would be sent by road to Kasargod on Tuesday. Those accompanying the veteran leader in the election tour say the vehicle is convenient for him. It is easy for him to enter and alight.
Meanwhile, Mr Vijayan, who will campaign in Palakkad on April 30, is scheduled to address public meetings in Mr Achuthanandan’s constituency Malampuzha. However, the veteran leader will be in Alappuzha on that day campaigning for Isaac and other candidates in the district.
Party sources claim that the leadership has planned the campaign meetings of the two top leaders in each other’s constituencies to send across a message to the cadre in particular and the people in general about the unity in the party.
