AAP in touch with Navjot Singh Sidhu, no date of joining yet

The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday said it is in touch with the former Rajya Sabha MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, but it didn’t clarify when Mr Sidhu will join the party fold.

The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday said it is in touch with the former Rajya Sabha MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, but it didn’t clarify when Mr Sidhu will join the party fold.

“He is in touch with us and we have also spoken, but it has not been decided when he will join,” said AAP spokesperson Ashutosh.

Mr Sidhu resigned on Monday amid speculations that he will be the AAP’s face for the Punjab Assembly election in 2017.

But Mr Ashutosh tried to put on hold speculations about his role in the party. Reiterating Delhi chief minister and national party convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s stance, he said the decision on their CM nominee in Punjab is yet to be taken.

“Let him join first,” he said.

When asked about the Congress’ remark that its doors were open for Mr Sidhu, Mr Ashutosh said, “What stand does the Congress party have in Punjab There is no need to react to anything Congress says.”

Earlier, Punjab Congress chief Capt. Amarinder Singh had said that former Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu was welcome to join the Congress if he so desired.

However, Capt. Amarinder later clarified that there was no communication between him and Mr Sidhu on the matter.

Sources in the AAP said both Mr Sidhu and his wife , who is a BJP MLA from Amritsar, are likely to join the party in August. However, as per the AAP rules, only one of them will contest elections. No two members of the same family are eligible to contest elections in our party, the party’s constitution says.

AAP insiders said Mr Sidhu will not be projected as the AAP CM candidate in Punjab. Instead, they said, he will be one of the key campaigners for the party in the upcoming Assembly elections.
