: At least 30 people were killed and 11 injured when a bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Sonapur in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, police said on Wednesday.
The accident took place at about 9:45 pm. The bus was coming from Silchar to Guwahati in Assam, Meghalaya Director General of Police Rajiv Mehta said.
Eleven bodies have so far been retrieved from the accident site and BSF personnel along with local people were making efforts to recover the rest.
The injured were admitted to a hospital in Shillong.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep pain over the loss of lives in the bus mishap in Meghalaya and said his prayers are with the families of the deceased.
