Three research scholars from Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) have filed a complaint with the HRD ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office accusing the vice-chancellor and dean of the department of home sciences of passing “derogatory and discriminatory remarks” against them.
The students, one of them belonging to a dalit community, have alleged that the V-C and the dean have sought a written apology from them for earlier complaints they had lodged against him in January.
The students — Avantika Rai, Shruti Singh and Anita Gautam — have alleged that when they approached the dean and V-C for submitting their Ph.D. theses on March 28, a condition was put before them.
“We were told in clear terms that our theses will only be accepted when we touch their feet in front of everyone and give a written apology for the complaints we have lodged. They even pressurized us to withdraw our complaints,” the students have said in their complaints.
The students also stated that the vice-chancellor had earlier torn up their fellowship claim form and forced them to write a letter stating that they had been getting their fellowship (given by UGC) regularly for one and half years.
“Despite several requests, we have not got our fellowship amount from the university”, the students said.
According to sources, the students had earlier approached the HRD ministry and PMO in January on this issue, but got no response. They alleged that they were due for pre-Ph.D. submission in January when their dean misbehaved with them.
Meanwhile, dean Sunita Misra rubbished the allegations and said that all three girls had barged into her cabin and had misbehaved with her. Vice-chancellor R.C. Sobti also denied the allegations.
