The ruling grand secular alliance government led by chief minister Nitish Kumar came under sharp attack on Wednesday after RJD legislator Saroj Yadav’s sister died due to injuries received during an attempt to sexually assault her. Two accused persons surrendered before the Bhojpur district court and were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days while the police launched a massive manhunt against the other three absconding suspects.
The lady, according to reports, was attacked by a few men while returning home late Saturday evening. The incident triggered protests as supporters of the RJD MLA blocked the Ara-Patna highway for almost six to seven hours after the victim, Shaili Yadav, was declared dead.
Sources said the victim had hired a shared autorickshaw late Saturday evening from Keshavpur area of Ara when some youths started misbehaving and later attacked her on the head with an iron rod and threw her out of the autorickshaw when she tried to resist. She was later rushed to Patna Medical College Hospital for treatment but didn’t survive for more than three days.
