The UP police, on Tuesday, claimed to have worked out the murder of NIA official Tanzil Ahmad and also announced the arrest of two persons Rehan and Zainul. The main accused Munir has not yet been arrested and a lookout notice has been issued for him.
Talking to reporters in Bijnore on Tuesday, IG (Bareilly range) V.K. Meena, said that Ahm-ad had been shot dead by Munir and the bike was driven by Rehan and the motive for the killing was revenge and a property dispute. He said that Rehan had been upset with the NIA official who had refused to help him in a few cases. Rehan is the son of Ahmad’s brother-in-law.
“Rehan had asked for Mr Ahmad’s help in a few cases but the latter had turned down his request and his anger against the official kept welling up”, the IG said.
The police official , however, could not explain why Munir got involved in the crime and what led to his pumping 22 bullets into the officer.
“We will get these answers only when Munir is arrested”, he added and said that Munir did not use a cell phone and, therefore, tracing his location was difficult.
The police official firmly ruled out the terror angle into the killing and said that issues that led to the murder were “purely personal”.
Explaining the sequence of events that led to the murder on the night of April 2, the IG said that Rehan was present at the wedding but left early. He took Zainul on his bike where Ahmad and his family were staying. When Ahmad left for the wedding venue, Rehan and Zainul went to meet Munir and took him on the bike to execute the plan.
