Intolerance debate gets a tweet edge
Even as there are serious debates raging all over the country on the perceived rise in instances of intolerance, there are those who’re using humour to great effect to make a point.

Even as there are serious debates raging all over the country on the perceived rise in instances of intolerance, there are those who’re using humour to great effect to make a point. Among those who’ve tweeted about the current scenario, with a comic twist, include Rishi Kapoor, Shirish Kunder and AIB’s Rohan Joshi.
After RBI governor Raghuram Rajan showed his support for the wave of artists who’ve returned their awards to protect their right to freedom of speech, Shirish Kunder tweeted, “Raghuram Rajan should be careful about his comments. Or Gajendra Chauhan could be the next RBI Governor.”
While Shirish made a subtle point, Rishi Kapoor chose to go the plaintive route with this tweet: “Yaaron! Please samjhao what is this tolerance and intolerance! Right now I cannot tolerate anybody talking about it.”
Bollywood’s denizens weren’t just tweeting — they were also being tweeted about. For instance, here was one example of a dig at Shah Rukh Khan’s recent remarks about intolerance in the country. “There’s ‘extreme intolerance’ in India says Shahrukh Khan. Maybe he’s talking about how he inflicted the masses with horrors like HNY and RaOne (sic),” read a tweet by @UnSubtleDesi. Or this gem by Karan Talwar a.k.a “BollywoodGandu”: “To join the protest against intolerance @juniorbachchan to return his Masala Award for Entertainer of the Year.”
Twitterati also used this opportunity to make jokes aplenty about their “rising levels of intolerance”. “Intolerance in this country is like my lower torso. Above my stomach it is growing and below my stomach it is rising...” tweeted Atul Khatri, while Rohan Joshi posted, “Have eaten so much kheema, there is growing intolerance in my stomach!”
