A BTech student’s “suicide” turned out to be a murder committed by her husband and her own mother, who were in a sexual relationship, says the police team probing the case at Nalgonda, Andhra Pradesh.
The victim, G. Jhansi Rajni, who was reported dead on May 24, had written a letter to the CI of the Nakrekal police station before her death revealing shocking details of an assault by her mother and husband.
In the letter sent via India Post, which was received by the police on May 28, four days after her death, Jhansi Rani revealed that her husband, G. Vijayender Reddy, 31, and her mother, G. Padma, 43, were in a sexual relationship, and that Padma had forced her into the marriage. It also revealed that Vijayender is a nephew of Padma and their relationship was many years old.
On May 24, Jhansi Rani was murdered in her house at Nakrekal. After that Padma and Vijayender buried the body in a hurry. They told neighbours that Jhansi had committed suicide.
The police suspects that Padma and Vijayender fed Jhansi pesticide forcefully and killed her. Police said Padma had take '20 lakh from Vijayender and was not able to pay it back. Padma, whose husband had passed away four years ago, then forced her daughter to marry him. Later, in order to recover the money, they both forced her into prostitution.
“We have gathered information that on May 24 afternoon Vijayender bought pesticides from a shop in Nakrekal. Before that the victim was assaulted by Padma and Vijayender,” said Nakrekal CI Venkateswarlu.
Police received the information about the death on May 28 when they received a letter written by Jhansi via post. Police found the girl was already dead and that it was not informed to the police or hospital.
Police said Jhansi, who was a student at a private engineering college in Hyderabad, went back to Nalgonda on May 23. “On the same night, Vijayender and Padma assaulted her. There was also marital rape,” said the inspector.
