TV anchor ends life while on video call
A television anchor, K. Nirosha (23), committed suicide while she was on a video call with her boyfriend in Canada.
A television anchor, K. Nirosha (23), committed suicide while she was on a video call with her boyfriend in Canada. She hanged herself in her room at the Devi PG ladies hostel in Sindhi Colony on Tuesday midnight.
Her boyfriend, Ritvik, alerted her friends, who informed the police. She, however, was dead when they broke open her door.
While it is suspected that she had fought with her boyfriend and took the extreme step due to de-pression, her family members said they were not aware that she was dep-ressed because of troubles in her relationship.
Police officers from Ramgopalpet, who are investigating the suicide case, said they would probe all angles of the case.
Her parents, meanwhile, told the police that she was suffering from health problems and it could be a reason for her committing suicide. According to the police, Nirosha, who was working in Gemini Music TV, hanged herself with a shawl while she was on a video call (probably Sky-pe) on her smartphone. “On the other end of the call was her boyfriend, who is studying and working in Canada. As she tightened the noose on her neck, the phone fell on the floor. When we reached the room, the phone was switched off,” said sub-ins-pector D. Krishna Mohan from the Ramgopalpet pol-ice station. Nirosha’s roommate, Keerthana, had gone to visit her relative in hospital when the incident occurred.
Hours before the suicide, Nirosha had called her parents in Bengaluru. At around 10.45 pm, she called her boyfriend and they spoke for a long time.
According to a friend of Nirosha’s, a panicked Ritvik called one of them at midnight and informed that Nirosha was going to commit suicide.
He asked them to stop her at any cost. They alerted the police and rushed to her room. When they broke open the door, Nirosha was already dead.
Police officials said that they had not found any suicide notes or video messages from the spot. “We cannot confirm now why she committed suicide. Her parents say that she was suffering from severe stomach pains and was taking medicines. We have booked a case under CrPC 174 for suspicious death. We need to investigate what drove her to suicide,” said Ramgopalpet inspector Mohammed Waheeduddin.
Police has seized the mobile phone and other belongings to investigate the case. Cops and Nirosha’s relatives have also spoken to Mr Ritvik to know what went wrong. However, he denied harassing or quarreling with her.
Nirosha, who originally hailed from Somala mandal in Chittoor district, had shifted to Hyderabad three years ago. She had studied in Bengaluru, where her parents Mr K. Radha Krishna and Ms Vasantham currently live. Nirosha had worked in another TV channel as a news reporter briefly before she joined Gemini TV.
Her body was taken to her native place in Chittoor for the funeral after post-mortem at Gandhi hospital.
