Rapper and actor Ice Cube’s upcoming film Barbershop: The Next Cut has hit a roadblock even with its impending release this weekend, as a playwright has asked a judge to stop the film from releasing — saying that the film’s concept was ripped off from his play.

According to TMZ.com the playwriter, J.D. Lawrence, says that all three of the franchise’s movies are based on his play Scissors that he had written and toured the US with between 1998 and 2001. Suing Warner Bros. for $20 million, Lawrence claims that plot lines and events in the film are extremely similar to the play, as well as a few characters too. The film stars Ice, Cedric the Entertainer and Common, and even features rappers Nicki Minaj and Tyga.
