Lupita lashes out at Oscars

Joining in the chorus of the growing criticism of the Academy Awards’ lack of diversity in their nominees this year, Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o took to her Instagram page to express her displeasure at the Academy.

She wrote, “It has me thinking about unconscious prejudice and what merits prestige in our culture. The Awards should not dictate the terms of art in our modern society, but rather be a diverse reflection of the best of what our art has has to offer today.” She added that she stands with her colleagues “who are calling for change in expanding the stories that are told and recognition of the people who tell them”.
